Digital Strategy
I’ve posted about this before, but I’ll reiterate the podcast strategy I thought of. So first, we’ll want to start small in terms of audience, whether it’s a niche hobby where a podcast doesn’t exist yet, or if you tell the story of a family member and share it with extended family members. For these initial few episodes, I would make these episodes as high quality as I can, and since the audience is relatively small, I would be able to take longer time between episodes without much backlash. Once we start rolling out more episodes, I would start posting on social media. For example, with out current podcast, I might post it in a subreddit about immigration or in some large-scale group chats (like those found in WeChat) to try to get people to listen. Networking would be huge here, as if the podcast can get a somewhat famous guest on, that can driver listeners. This part would be getting the word out, and driving interested listeners to the podcast.
In terms of monetization, we would want Patreon first, as with a core of dedicated listeners this would be the easiest way. They’d probably want to keep the podcast going. Once the podcast starts growing a bit more, we would start moving to other revenue streams, such as getting sponsorships or selling podcast merchandise. Eventually, we may even be able to turn the podcast stories into an anthology and publish that, too.
Storytelling
Our storytelling strategy will be finding similar and contrasting themes between two different interviews as the two interviewees adapted to life in the US. To follow the format of the compass:
Name: What’s your story?
Tagline: Investigating the stories of immigrants
Description: What’s Your Story? ask immigrants or anyone new to the US what their moving process and adaptation was like. We dig into their stories, discovering their struggles and successes.
Main Category: Society & Culture
Subcategory: Would probably best fit documentary
Keywords that best describe the podcast: adaptation, immigration, language, culture
Core topics: immigration, struggle, new language, new culture, adaptation
